What Is an Adverb?

by Brian P. Cleary

Illustrated by Brian Gable

Reviewed June 17, 2003.
Carolrhoda Books, Minneapolis, 2003.  32 pages.
Available at Sembach Library.  (J 428.2 CLE).

Dearly, Nearly, Insincerely does exactly what it sets out to do, explaining to its readers, with light-hearted examples and explanations, exactly what an adverb is.  Silly cartoon pictures accompany the rhyming text, with the adverbs highlighted in different colors.  Perfect for a child learning the parts of speech--One quick read-through of this book, and he’ll understand adverbs very well.
