***Don't Know Much About the Kings & Queens of England

by Kenneth C. Davis

illustrated by S. D. Schindler

Reviewed January 1, 2003.
HarperCollins, New York, 2002.  48 pages.
Available at Sembach Library (J 920 DAV)

My eight-year-old son especially likes the “Don’t Know Much About” series and has picked up a surprising knowledge of Presidents and States from reading those books in this series.  I honestly don’t know much about the kings and queens of England, so I thought this would be a good one for me to start with.  As the author says in his introduction, this book “proves that real history about real people is a lot more fun than a bunch of simple dates and facts.”  This is an entertaining and informative book, enhanced by illustrations reminiscent of political cartoons.  No, it’s not comprehensive, but it does present some good background information and lots of fascinating trivia about the kings and queens of England.
