Sonderbooks Stand-out 2005 (#3, Biography)

Here are more amusing stories from the life of Gervase Phinn, the author of The Other Side of the Dale.  He tells about his experiences as the County Inspector of Schools for English and Drama in Yorkshire.  He talks about colorful characters, a heavy work load, and outstanding examples of both good and bad teaching.  He summarizes the vision he finds in the best teachers as being those who expect the moon from their students.  The worst teachers don’t seem to expect much at all.

In this book, he also courts his wife and has many humorous encounters with students and teachers, complete with some of the dangers of such encounters—such as head lice.

These are the only two books of his that the library has so far, but I’m planning to look on Amazon for further volumes.  A lot of fun.
