***Hiawatha and Megissogwon

by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

illustrated by Jeffrey Thompson

Reviewed November 11, 2001.
National Geographic Society.  2001.  32 pages.  Available at Sembach Library (J 811.3 LON).

This book is from the book-length poem, “The Song of Hiawatha.”  The language is grand and fun to read.  Definitely for reading aloud.  I read it to my youngest, and his father and older brother listened in, too.  A little something different from the usual picture book fare, it tells the story of Hiawatha’s battle with an evil magician.
