****Nobody Rides the Unicorn

by Adrian Mitchell

illustrated by Stephen Lambert

Arthur A. Levine Books, 1999.  32 pages.
Available at Sembach Library.  (E MIT)

This is a sweet book, with beautiful pictures.  When a wicked and fearful king wants to catch a unicorn, he gets the help of a quiet and gentle beggar girl named Zoe.  When Zoe learns that they intend to kill the unicorn for his horn, she sets him free.  Of course, the king is very angry with Zoe and banishes her from the kingdom, declaring her to be nobody.  This works out perfectly, because Zoe is able to find the unicorn, and “Nobody rides the unicorn.”
