***J. R. R. Tolkien:  The Man Who Created ‘The Lord of the Rings'

by Michael Coren

Reviewed May 25, 2002.
Scholastic, 2002.  135 pages.  Available at Sembach Library (JB TOL).

This is a short and interesting biography of J. R. R. Tolkien.  I enjoyed it, as I had never read the story of his life.  It’s written for children, but doesn’t talk down to them.  That was an advantage, as this way I got to learn the basic outline of Tolkien’s life, without getting bogged down in detail.  Interesting and amusing, I recommend it for fans of The Lord of the Rings.  Writers who read it will be encouraged to learn that this great work did not come quickly or easily!
