Ridiculous Poems for Intelligent Children

by Robin Hirsch

Art by Ha

Reviewed May 7, 2002.
Megan Tingley Books, 2002.  48 pages.

As I’ve said before, I can’t resist books that compliment the reader rather than insulting him.  How delightful to go counter to the trend of books for Dummies or Idiots and bring your children a book that says it’s for them right on the cover!

These poems are fun, engaging in a lot of word play.  Their idea is to make you think but also make you smile.  And they succeed to a certain extent.  These poems won’t leave you pondering their deep meaning—They are, admittedly, Ridiculous.  (The editor didn’t let them be called Stupid.)  However, they might leave you smiling and making up similar poems yourself.
