***I Am a Skater

as photographed by Jane Feldman

Reviewed November 10, 2002.
Random House, New York, 2002.  48 pages.
Available at Sembach Library (JB HUG).

This book is part of the Young Dreamers series.  We have another one of the series at the library, I Am a Gymnast.  Both books are beautifully photographed.

I am a Skater, tells the story of twelve-year-old Emily Hughes.  She’s a skater from a family of skaters.  The pictures and text tell about what her life is like as she practices and competes as a skater.  It makes an entertaining book even for someone like me who has no plans of being a skater.

Both of these books are hidden away in the juvenile biography section, so I want to point them out.  This is a lovely and simple introduction to what it is like for a kid to be a skater.
