****Moving Is Murder

A Mom Zone Mystery

by Sara Rosett

Reviewed June 30, 2006.
Kensington Books, New York, 2006.  264 pages.
Available at Sembach Library (MCN F ROS).

Here’s a delightful first novel.  The detective of the new series is an Air Force wife, so the world of the novel was one our library customers and I know all too well.

Ellie Avery has moved four times in five years.  She’s a pilot's wife and the mother of a newborn, and she’s dismayed to learn that their new house is in the same neighborhood as several other members of her husband’s squadron.  They live off base, but they can’t escape the military.

After the first squadron event that Ellie attends, a nosy spouse dies from an allergy to bee stings.  Not many people liked her, so when Ellie discovers honey wedged under her car’s gas pedal, she suspects foul play.  But will anyone listen to a busy Mom?  Is one of her husband’s new co-workers a murderer?

This is a light and fun mystery story.  I enjoyed the characters, and like seeing a mild-mannered mom solve a mystery.  It was fun to read the glossary of military acronyms at the back of the book, and a little scary that I knew most of them.  For extra fun, Sara Rosett includes a moving tip at the end of almost every chapter.  I’m going to have to write some of them down before I move this summer.
