Creation Hymns
Creation Hymns marvel at the works of the Creator.
There’s something about a day at the beach, a hike in the mountains, a night of stargazing. Then there’s the amazement of coming face to face with a deer in the woods or watching an osprey dive to catch a fish. Since ancient times, people have let moments with nature draw them to the Creator.
Creation Hymns praise God for power and transcendence in creating – and then wonder that such a powerful God pays attention to lowly humans. We have a relationship with the Creator of heaven and earth!
Many Psalms have elements of this, but in these nine Psalms, it's a significant part: Psalms 8, 19, 33, 65, 95, 96, 104, 139, and 148.
Here are four Key Concepts from those Creation Hymns:
Looking at God's creation fills us with wonder. Creation Hymns revel in that.
Not only did God create the world and its creatures and its people - God continues to care for all of them.
God formed us and made us - and so God knows our every thought and every word.
Let the trees clap their hands! All creation - including us - praises our Creator.
Now you try! Read some Creation Hymns, then go out for a walk in God's creation, then try to write your own.
Here are my examples of Creation hymns on my Sonderjourneys blog. I'd love to see your own examples in the comments!
